Porencephaly (shizencéphalie)

Porenchéphalie is a disorder characterized by the presence of a slit or cavities in the cerebral hemispheres. In more serious cases, the slot or cavity communicates between the surface of the cerebral hemispheres and the cerebral ventricles.

Symptoms of porencephaly depend on the location and size of the lesion:

-The most common manifestation is a cerebral palsy hemiplegic.
-Intellectual deficit and epilepsy are frequently observed.
athetosis-fold: It is a question of involuntary movements, slow, irregular, small amplitude, uninterrupted, particularly affecting the head, limbs and neck.

Treatment:
There is no specific treatment for porencephaly. Symptomatic treatment includes the rehabilitation of antiepileptic drugs for epilepsy, and the placement of a shunt if hydrocephalus.

Shared-list:
There are currently 9 children with porencephaly (shizencephalie) on the shared-list. Several have other needs, some have only porencephaly. Some also have mild paralysis following this porencephaly or cerebral palsy.
