Fell into an unfortunate omission since almost a century (written in 1920), The Heart burglarized is certainly one of the most beautiful works of Gaston Leroux. In 150 pages ago, the author has managed to bring together all ingredients fiction, fantasy, mystery, that make his work complete one of the strangest and most exciting of his time.
Heart Burglarized did not deny the influence of Phantom of the Opera or Dolls and Bloody Murder Machine . Everything is fundamentally romantic, wild, all driven to madness , until the improbable, until tragedy.
We firstly Hector, the brave character, down to earth, not prone to wandering of the soul and existential questions, and who strives to save itself the young Cordelia, character sensitivity is heightened, but an undeniable goodness, happens to any delay. On the other hand, Patrick found the genius of art and suggestions, which will employ all means possible to bring back fantastically Cordelia to him. On the merits, the story traces the same frame, the same drama triangle as other works by Leroux. There is also a common idea: that of the female character, who finds himself in the grip of a figure wreathed in mystery, whose only assets unconditional love, melancholy and charisma. This is the case of Christine Daae, Christine Norbert, or even Stangerson, to name a few ...
Then there was a good man, Hector, like Raoul de Chagny by Jacques Cotentin, Robert Darzac struggling with ways humans against an enemy inssaisissable and superhuman.
Although the character "black" in this novel, Patrick, do not really unlike Erik, Benedict Masson Larsan, since it is absolutely devoid of violence and extreme actions, yet it shares with leroussiens counterparts, significant similarities: he uses incredible gifts and invraissemblables to achieve its purposes, and land like them in the shade. It is regrettable that Leroux has pushed further the portrait of his character, who certainly deserved. Because it raises enough interest in Cordelia, for one,, can not know if she really wants to be saved from his bad influence ...
A fantastic tale, haunting, which can leave no fan of the genre marble ... (And others!)

*** This novel by Jean-Pierre Gattegno is without doubt one of the most amazing works I have ever read in recent months. Firstly because it pits the two genera, both styles of writing and storytelling: the thriller for the conduct and social satire for the shading, all orchestrated by a relentless humor, and beautifully honed acid . We smile at the incongruity of the mission of the teacher-hitman paid by the state, or at the attitude of these students a little violence imaginable, which seem straight out of a gangster movie ... But over the reading, deeply black humor of the story takes away all desire to laugh. For if the situations and contexts are exaggerated, it is the social misery of our time as the author traces here the fates doomed to destruction of an entire generation left behind, left to itself, in a world crossed by a barbaric violence.

Under the guise of an effective thriller with a fair dose of insanity is the social critique that remains etched in the mind, once the book is closed. The malaise that it emanates from elsewhere, is not without unlike that painted by Dostoevsky in "Crime and Punishment", in which the author uses without hiding (note the number of Russian names, some freely taken from the work of the writer).

It would be interesting to draw parallels between these two works, written over 150 years apart ... It may be premature and dared to compare the portrait of the misery of the Russian people in a pre-revolutionary, and that of the modern youth described by the author, but I retain as common idea, a climate noxious, suffocating, doomed to destruction.

Transposition of original stories by Conan Doyle in the London is a modern idea rather paradoxical. Some say that this is a sacrilege, because it would ban more or less the Victorian charm that emanates from the atmosphere Holmesian. The purist's fear seems entirely legitimate in a strictly Manichean.

The creators of this series, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, two worshipers original character, have so far investigations of the gun, while keeping a faithful spirit.

First, there is the atmosphere, wonderfully dark, dismal, ominous, highlighted by a strong realization and neat. London remains a full-fledged character in this version, with its dangers, its threats, its fog and gloomy streets, like the Victorian London of the barrel.
We think inevitably the sanitized atmosphere of the brilliant series Whitechapel (blog post Children of the Night Gabriel), while differentiating them with a spirit and a clean environment.

Let us turn now to the characters.

John Watson, is portrayed by Martin Freeman entirely credible. A character loyal to some reasonable extent, and that we take friendship very quickly. His game is just, posed, led gradually to an energy saving. So far, it has often been considered that the character of Watson was simply enforcing Holmes here, roles have become two of each other. Watson is considered by Holmes as a "light pipe", it nevertheless brings to the doctor right in melancholy, the stimulation needed to make it to life.

If we wanted to find adjectives to define the Sherlock Holmes portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch , we almost get lost. It is both terribly cold, and intolerable deliciously eccentric, probably totally sociopathic, disconcerting and foremost magnetic . As a viewer, one feels all the trouble to define it, both because it is difficult to understand how it works so damn fast, in his manner of speaking, reasoning , and secondly because it is quite unpleasant, as impersonal, stubborn, confident, and often inappropriate. The writers came to transcribe the whole ambiguity of the character orginał, lamenting the lack of ingenuity of criminals or bored when they are quiet ... ( It Is Fortunate for this community That I Am Not A criminal, "he said in the gun) In the case of Holmes that this adaptation, we feel the full force of this quotation exactly.
With an intelligence bordering on omniscience, but also a second degree humor subtly measured, the character, despite the modern context has kept intact its envelope, its essence, and overwhelming charisma.

A word also about Rupert Graves, as Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard désamparé, which as usual, is excellent as well as the rest of this impeccable cast, despite the appearance of his ungrateful role.






We also note the presence of Mark Gatiss (co-writer) in the role of Mycroft disturbing ... Character serious, disturbing, self-proclaimed "arch-enemy (enemy) of his younger brother, occupying a position in government to obscure the image of his original model, it takes place in this episode with an aura quite threatening



One thing is certain: Moriarty prowl ... The evil twin of Holmes is mentioned implicitly in the first episode ... We ask to see!
