KAW


The Marshes Nature Reserve Kaw is one of six nature reserves created by the French Guyana.
This reserve is the third nature reserve in France by 94,700 hectares in size, after that of the French Southern Territories 2,270,000 hectares and 100,000 hectares Nouragues, and the largest wetland in France.
It was created by Decree 13 March 1998 which straddles the towns of Regina and Roura and includes the village of Kaw.
Indeed, the forest of the Montagne de Kaw has the highest rainfall in Guyana.
That would explain it would have served as refuge for wildlife during periods of severe drought Pleistocene era.
Located 50km from Roura, this nature reserve that encompasses several habitats is undoubtedly a paradise for birds.
The Toco Toucan, the Hoatzin, flamingos, among others, and that of amphibians, including the aquatic lizard, anaconda, Turtle Mata Mata and alligators to discover the inevitable once the night fallen. .
